BPS Standard A-F Grade Scale

BPS Standard A-F Grade Scale

This Grade Scale is used for most middle and high schools for term grading. This is the same grade scale as the BPS Final Grade Scale with the exception of the grade MedEx (Medically Excused) and MFG (Missing Final Grade). MedEx may be used for a term grade but may not be used as a final grade so the MedEx grade is not a BPS Final Grade Scale grade. MFG may be used for a Final Grade but not for a term grade.

Fields

  • Code is the code entered in Gradebooks and Transcripts
  • Value The value is often the maximum percentage a student can earn to receive this grade. The system uses the value you enter to calculate GPAs and other averages from letter grades.
  • Cutoff The cutoff value is the lowest percentage grade a student can earn to receive this grade.
  • Credit Indicates whether a letter grade earns credit at the completion of a course
  • NoNumericEquiv? Indicates if there is no numeric value for a grade. If there is no numeric value, any transcripts with letter grades that have NoNumericEquiv will not be included in grading calculations (final grade, GPA)

Definitions

P (Pass) is a grade that indicates a passing grade was attained but the course is not graded on the standard A-F grading scale. This grade is typically reserved for non-academic courses as it can not be translated into a numeric value for the GPA or class rank.

I (Incomplete) indicates that a student has not completed the course requirements, either due to missing assignments or low participation. Incomplete grades can be converted to a standard grade at a later date and will not translate into a numeric grade on the GPA or rank.

W (Withdrawn) shows that a student withdrew from the class/school prior to completing the course and could not complete the requirements of the course. The withdrawn mark does not have a numeric equivalent.

MedEx (Medically Excused) A term grade given for a course when a student is medically excused.
