How to manage notifications in BPSLearns (Brightspace)

What are notifications in BPSLearns?

By default, all BPS staff in BPSLearns (hosted in Brightspace) will receive notifications in their BPS email inbox whenever they are enrolled in a course/training.

BPSLearns provides notifications through email. Your BPS Gmail will be used for all email notifications.

Why am I getting notifications?

A common notification that participants receive is that they have to complete a quiz in a course/training. Completing a quiz earns you a certificate for taking that course/training.

Please note: all required annual BPS district trainings in BPSLearns have quizzes that participants must pass in order to earn a certificate and be marked as having completed the training.

If you receive notifications such as the below image showing an activity summary with the course title and the course update saying "1 Quizzes Not Attempted", that means that you are enrolled in that course/training and have yet to take or pass the quiz in the course/training.

It is recommended that you take the quiz as soon as possible. Once complete, you will no longer receive notifications about that quiz.

How do I customize the notifications I receive?

You can customize which actions in Brightspace will trigger a notification, and where you want the notification sent.

  1. Login to BPSLearns at learn.bostonpublicschools.org. Click Sign in with Google and enter your BPS Gmail and BPS Gmail password.
  2. Click your name in the upper right hand corner. Select Notifications.

  1. Select which notifications you want to get from the list of actions in a course.

  1. Set any Custom Notifications and choose any courses to exclude from your notification settings.
