How to enable live transcript CC in Zoom

Rhianon Gutierrez Updated by Rhianon Gutierrez

Zoom now offers live transcription during a meeting, enabling greater access to your spoken content.

Follow the instructions below to ensure that they are enabled for your account.

Please note: live transcription only works in the main room, not in breakout rooms.

Setup

  1. Go to zoom.us/profile/setting

  1. Scroll down to the “In Meeting (Advanced)” section. Toggle “Closed Captioning” to on and check the box that says “Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in-meeting”. Click SAVE!
  1. Open your Zoom meeting. At the bottom, click button that says “Live Transcript CC”.
  2. Click “Enable Auto Transcription” to activate embedded captioning.
  3. Embedded captions are now ENABLED!

In order for your student or another individual in the Zoom meeting to see the captioning, the individual needs to click “Live Transcript CC" > “Show Subtitles.”

Additional Features

If you or your student would like to SAVE the transcript to refer back OR to have the transcript as a side screen view to follow these steps.

  1. Click “Live Transcript CC” and the small menu carrot ^. Choose “View Full Transcript." Then captioning can be viewed in a window along the side.

  1. To save the transcript click “Save Transcript." This will then be stored in the Zoom folder on the individual’s computer.
If you have any questions about captioning access, please contact your Mainstream Team for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing provider or Alyse Zucker.
