How do I get started with Google Meet?

K.C. Kourtz Updated by K.C. Kourtz

Google Meet is a collaborative online conferencing tool that allows multiple users to communicate at once in an easily accessible way through video and audio conferencing and text chat, all within Google.

Employees are advised to use Zoom or Google Meet when meeting virtually with BPS staff, students, parents, or guardians. These applications should be accessed using employees' BPS email addresses and not using personal logins. Employees should exercise caution when sharing their screen to ensure that students' personal information is not inadvertently exposed. In addition, use best security practices when hosting virtual meetings: ensure the waiting room is enabled and verify attendees' identities before admitting to meetings. The recording of special education and disciplinary meetings is generally prohibited. Please see the BPS Acceptable Use Policy for more information.
If AI notetakers will be used in a meeting, employees should only use BPS-approved AI notetakers, be present during the meeting, and disclose the use of an approved AI notetaker. Please see the Technology website for more information. Employees are strongly encouraged to review the notes produced immediately after the conclusion of the meeting to enure the accuracy of the AI notetaker. Please see the BPS Acceptable Use Policy for more information.

How can I host or join a meeting?

There are three options to host or join a meeting: Google Classroom, Google Calendar, and Google Meet. Review step-by-step instructions here.

Hosts can schedule and host meetings for 2 or more users to meet and are the ones in control of the meeting's settings. They are responsible for sharing a link to the meeting with participants so that they can join. Participants can join a meeting once they receive the meeting URL.

How do I share my screen in Meet?

  1. From inside a Hangout, click the Screenshare button on the menu bar at the top. A new window appears.
  2. Select the screen you want to share.
