Managing Loaner Macs

Brett Allard Updated by Brett Allard

This document is intended for the management of loaner machines that have gone through enrollment with BPS.

  1. Log into the account “loaner” with the password ‘loaner’
  2. Make sure that the computer is connected to any network, either a school network or BpsStaff
  3. Restart the computer
  4. Log back into the “loaner” account
  5. A prompt will pop up asking for the user ID number to be registered to the computer. Fill it out and hit enter. A second prompt will appear to confirm the ID number. Fill this out and hit enter.
  6. The user will be notified that their account has been created with the initial password of ‘loaner’ and they will have to restart the machine.
  7. After the machine restarts, they will log in to their account.
  8. Once logged in, they will have to change their password either through the Apple SSO extension or through system preferences> users and groups pane
  9. To reassign the device, make sure the device is connected to the internet  and log into the loaner account, repeating the provided steps

IMPORTANT: Do NOT log into the loaner account for any other purpose than reassigning the machine to another user. Doing so erases all the accounts currently on the machine with the exception of the loaner account
