What are the different types of GPAs and GPA Reports?

Types of GPAs

  • GPA Weighted Cumulative:  A student's cumulative GPA is the grade point average for all attempted courses that takes into account the academic level of the course. Includes all courses flagged in Aspen as "Include in GPA."
The Grade Point Averages Report for the Weighted Cumulative GPA will be run at specific times during the school year and will usually update the GPA on the Student table. The Class Rank is usually updated at this same time.

  • GPA Weighted Current Term:  A student's weighted GPA is the grade point average that is calculated using the current term grades only, taking into consideration the academic level of the course. Includes all courses flagged in Aspen as "Include in GPA."
This report should be run at the end of each term. The value stored on the Student table will be updated with the new term Weighted GPA. The data in this field is overwritten when the Grade Point Averages Report is run for a specific term and the Update GPA on Student is selected.

  • GPA Unweighted Cumulative A student's unweighted cumulative GPA is the grade point average for all attempted courses, with no consideration for the academic level of a course. Includes all courses flagged in Aspen as "Include in GPA."
The Grade Point Averages Report for the Unweighted Cumulative GPA will be run at specific times during the school year and will usually update the GPA on the Student table. The Unweighted Class Rank is usually updated at this same time.

  • GPA Unweighted Current Term A student's unweighted GPA is the grade point average that is calculated using the current term grades only, with no consideration for the academic level of a course.Includes all courses flagged in Aspen as "Include in GPA."
The Grade Point Averages Report for the Unweighted Current Term Report should be run at the end of each term. The data in this field is overwritten when the Grade Point Averages Report is run for a specific term and the Update GPA on Student is selected.

  • Athletic GPA: A student's GPA based upon all students courses, regardless of "Include in GPA" flag on course.

  • Athletic GPA (Trimesters): For trimester based schools. A student's GPA based upon all students courses, regardless of "Include in GPA" flag on course.

What is the "Include in GPA" flag?

There is a field on the District Course table that sets if a course is to be included in the GPA or not. If checked, the course will be included in GPA calculations. If unchecked, the course will not be included in GPA calculations.*

*With the exception of the Athletic GPA. The Athletic GPA includes all courses regardless of the "Include in GPA" flag.
