Create and Assign Platoon Codes for Elementary Scheduling

Aspen Support Updated by Aspen Support

If your student groups contain subgroups of students, you can create platoon codes for elementary scheduling.

For example, you might have a subgroup of students who need to be scheduled into different course sections from the rest of the group, such as special education or ESL course sections.

To create consistent platoon codes:

  1. Log on to the Build view. If the current school has the scheduling mode set to Both, click Build > Elementary mode..
  2. Click the Global tab.
  3. Click the Reference side-tab. The list of reference tables appears.
  4. Select the checkbox next to Platoon Code, and then click Codes on the Reference side-tab.
  5. On the Options menu, click Add.
  6. Define the information for the platoon code.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 for each platoon you want to create.

To assign students to a platoon:

  1. Log on to the Build view. If the current school has the scheduling mode set to Both, click Build > Elementary mode..
  2. Click the Student tab.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Select a student, and click Details. Select or type a platoon code.
    • On the Options menu, click Modify List. Click  in the Platoon column header. Select or type a platoon code for each student in the platoon.
    • On the Options menu, create a Query, or select a Snapshot to select a group of students you want to assign to a platoon all at once. Then, on the Options menu, click Mass Update. Select the Platoon field, then select or type a value.
