What is the De-Escalation Training? Who should complete this training?

The Boston Public Schools (BPS) De-escalation Training was created and adapted in collaboration between Behavioral Health Services and the Office of Social Work. The goal of this training is to provide an understanding of the trajectory that a student’s behavior follows during an escalation and the ways in which staff can respond, both proactively and in the moment.

Every BPS employee is required to complete a de-escalation training as stated in the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) restraint regulations.
